Camping is $15.00 dollars a night per person or you can rent a treehouse out at regular price if available (please see web site Treesort Pricelist). Food packages are available at $90.00 dollars per person, there is a vegetarian option.
Please call to make reservations.
This year is the tenth anniversary of the first treehouse conference held in 1997. A lot has changed in the science and art of building treehouses over the last ten years. Next years conference will be held in the Seattle area and be put on by Treehouse Workshop. Out'n'About and Treehouses.com have treehouses dating back 17 years. At this years conference Michael will reveal what time has done to the different treehouses. We do not have the exact classes scheduled for this year yet, though, they will run along the same lines of what we offered in 2006, see below.
Arrive Friday by noon to learn how to hang in the trees!
Classes will include climbing, ropes and zip lines. Saturday and Sunday will offer classes about theory, hardware, engineering, building, selecting trees and more.
If you have any other questions please contact us at office mail link (click here) or at 541-592-2208.
Oh yeah, did we mention that we have two more zips plus
the giant zip line?

Between lectures and
hands-on workshops, this year you can learn about the following:
- Tree Selection: Determining the best of
what you've got... and if that's good enough, as well as how the tree
will react to hosting a structure.
- Treehouse maintenence: how to replace a main beam without dropping the house and replacing a whole platform
Treehouse design : Peter Nelson will be giving a class on how to enhance the design of your treehouse. Then how will your tree(s)
best host this structure and how to determine what types of brackets to
use and where to install them in order to maintain a level attitude
while not risking the trees' health.
A separate workshop will cover the various
types of brackets we've developed and when to use each type.
Garnier Limb installation: We will be
building a platform using the GL's.
- Kneebraces: the different ways to install them in a tree
Rigging: Friday afternoon, basic ropes course and advanced
rigging. This workshop will show you how to use the climbing equipment
needed to work safely in a tree.
- Engineering: Basic engineering for treehouses up to 200sq/ft. The different types of brackets that are used to support the treehouse design.
For a good idea about what to expect this year, here's basically what happened
last time;
Friday: Set up 12-5:00 pm
Come early and get some extra experience on how
you prepare your tools materials and trees for construction. The ropes
course will be offered on Friday so we can teach some less experienced
participants how to climb trees safely, early in the weekend! They
will then be able to get birds eye views of some of the construction.
Please call ahead to make sure there's room to join the course on Friday. |
6:00 pm Dinner
starts.
| This will be a no host dinner in the Main Lodge. The meal
will be set out until everyone has eaten. This is a good time for
people to get acquainted and settled in. |
SATURDAY
8:00-9:00am - Breakfast
9:00-10:00 am - Introduction by Michael Garnier.
- Michael will explain how the workshops and lectures will
proceed. He will then introduce the workshop leaders. They will give a
brief explanation of what will be covered in their workshops. We will
then start with the first round of "ask the experts". Be sure to send in particular
questions early so we can put pictures and demo's together specific to your interest.
We will either answer your questions at this time or direct you to the
right workshop or lecture for specifics. If for some reason we can't come
up with a good solution for you, we will try to answer it on sunday morning's
next "ask the expert" panel.
- Michael will be giving a cutting edge workshop on hybrid
treehouse's and tree friendly houses over the weekend. We will also be showing
the progress and plans to his 1500 sq.ft. treehouse for his own family
use.
- Peter Nelson (Professional treehouse builder for
"Treehouse Workshop" ) will join in on the hybrid treehouse
presentation with pictures and drawings of a 1000+ sq. ft. treehouse he
is building.
- Charlie Greenwood (Mechanical Engineer specializing in stress
analysis and the world's leading expert in treehouse engineering) will
give a workshop on Engineering of treehouse's.
Hosts the international tree house code and registry discussion:
Group discussion of best ways to implement an international code, with
emphasis on minimum safe design practices and proscriptive designs as
well as how to conduct a rational analysis. Includes discussion on how
to best interface with existing codes. Also, newly available
information technology makes it possible to interface qualified
contractors into tree house projects going on everywhere. Different
sub-specialty contractors could check an international project registry
for possible work, and owner/developers could select amongst a wider
group of builders. All that would be required is the co-ordinates (GPS
or?) and a check off list of project features. A modest fee may be necessary.
Once finished the registered project would have an improved chance of
local code approval and consumer acceptance.
- Jake Jacobs (Project manager for "Treehouse Workshop") tree survey
and treehouse design workshop.
- Scott Baker, RCA Treesolutions Inc. (Tree Biologist: Scott is currently
the Principal Consulting Arborist for Tree Solutions Inc. Tree Basics
for Tree House Builders; Intro or refresher on tree biology basics with
a focus on tree house related issues. Tree Structural Mechanics,
Understanding Tree Structure to Build Better Tree Houses; Learn about
tree structural mechanics. Understand how to use Visual Tree Assessment
(VTA) in planning your tree house.
- Michael Oxman (advent tall tree climber) "Arboreally yours" workshop on
advanced rigging.
- Bill Allen of Forever
Young Treehouse Inc. organization will give a
presentation on how they built the largest ADA treehouse in the world
with 340 feet of bridges to put the 860 sq.ft. treehouse and deck 20ft.
off the ground. They used 65 GL's and another type of connection that
will be presented.
Michael Garnier will also be giving a workshop on the installation of
artificial
tree limbs. This is usually done as a platform is being built throughout the
conference
