Horseback Riding | Rafting | Ropes Course

There are many educational, and adventurous, vacation sites in Southern Oregon, but only one where you can, lit-treely, "go out on a limb" ...and have fun learning something while you're there.

Through a hard fought eight year battle with our local Josephine County officials, during which we were ordered to shut down several times and, at peak pitch, ordered to tear down our treehouses, we persevered by selling one-of-a-kind signed and dated treeshirts, which allowed Treemuskeeters to stay over for free.

Because the county has finally recognized the built-in safety features of our treehouses, we no longer have to sell shirts and limit guests to our "friends," but we still do. Feel free to come and become a Treemusketeer and our friend, anytime!

The internationally famous Out'n'About Treesort is a licensed Bed & Breakfast establishment. We are also the Treehouse Institute of Arts and Culture in Takilma, a truly high school, which offers a very Elementree educational experience. The facilitree is draped among the branches of an Oak grove in Takilma, a picturesque little valley nestled among the Siskiyou Mountains in Southern Oregon, a short way from the California border and just below the headwaters of the East Fork on the Illinois River.

The Treesort has added a bathhouse and pavilion. The bathhouse adds two more showers, sinks and toilets, for the treehouses that aren't in-house equipped.

All guests and students at the Treesort and Institute must make themselves at home. A full breakfast is served in the kitchen of the main house every morning during the main season and is a good time to meet the other guests. The pavilion has a laundry, games and kitchen facilities. There are barbecues, grills, a campfire, picnic tables for preparing lunch and dinner. For fun there are: swings, a floating ship (Piratree), a canopy walk-way (Mountain View Treeway), a dirt basketball court, 2 horseshoe pits, volleyball court and a unique stone-lined, chemical-free, seasonal swimming pool fed by the nearby Illinois River.

Summertime at Out'n'About is dominated by children and families. Romantic interludes are our off season specialtree.

The Treehouse Institute, established over the summer of 1996, is the only place in the world that offers avocational instruction in basic engineering, design and construction methods for building treehouses. There are also plenty of other things to learn and have fun with here. We are like a summer camp for the whole family. The courses are tailored to children of any age . Our staff teaches ropes courses, horseback riding, rafting and treehouse construction, and are easily arranged. Local artists from the area teach the craft and cultural courses on site or close by. Schedule of classes and events will be posted on the web, www.treehouses.com, under TREEHOUSE INSTITUTE as they become available.

If you are unable to book a stay at the treesort, and are in the area, you can still call ahead and sign-up for any of the x-tree classes.
