shuttel Although we no longer lead our own floats, we are happy to help direct you where's best for you!.
There are many places to go rafting near Out'n'About in southern Oregon and northern California. The launch sites for the raft trips are from 30 minutes to an hour away. We can guide from 4 to 20 people, young and old down some of the most beautiful rivers in the world.
In the summer we do day trips when the water is warm and the sun is hot. Here we are on an easy stretch of the upper Illinois River. The water is too low in summer for full size rafts, so we use Catrafts and inflatable Kayaks instead. Kids need to be at least 8 years old and know how to swim. Rapids in the summer are class 1 and 2's, easy fun stuff!
For people that want to just sit back and float down river. We can put you in a raft and row you down the Klamath River, where rapids are class 1 and 2's (with one 3+ to 4 depending on water level). The put in is 30 miles over the mountain from us at Happy Camp, California. If you want to float down non technical sections of just the open sections of the Rogue River we recommend Ferron's Fun Trips; Rogue Fun Trips!
please look them up!
Kids need to be at least teenagers for this stretch of the Illinois. We can use rafts or catrafts in April and May. June and July we use catrafts and inflatable kayaks. Rapids are class 1's, 2's and 3's.
The Lower Illinois is a class 5 river.
Seasonal access only! Usually in the spring when the flows are still high enough and the weather is perfect.
Upper section of the Middle Fork of the Smith River is a class 5 river at higher water. We mostly float it in July and August when the water is lower and warmer. On the lower non-technical section we float right through some magnificent old growth redwood groves! Incredible beauty that must be seen to be believed..
It is technical in places but not too dangerous. There is one particularly exciting stretch with drops and pools one after another. We have a betting pool going on this river where everyone puts in some money and the one that doesn't flip wins!
Illinois Falls, Class 6 Rapid. We have tried it three times at 500cfs (cubic feet per second). We were successful all three times, with nobody flipping or getting seriously hurt two out of those three. The one very slight injury was a scraped knee when they went over the side for an unexpected swim, but the injured party enjoyed it just the same! (and wants to do it again)
You must be experienced for the upper and more technical sections of this river, it'sd a good idea to have insurance and be willing to sign away all and any rights to sue us if anything goes bad, sorry. Although everyone who's done it says it's way worth it and is a very minor consideration.
This time we made it without losing anyone or getting the slightest scratch!
